     Recently, a group of over 100 people gathered in the Commons Area of Bethune-Bowman High School for a very special occasion – the dedication and naming ceremony for the Melvin L. Crum Memorial Highway. The stretch will be along Highway 178 from its intersection with Bethel Forest Road to its intersection with Gordon Drive.

"Principal For A Day®"
Program A Huge Success


     If it is true that the best experience anyone can get for a particular job is hands-on, then there are 17 leaders from the Orangeburg County community who truly have a better understanding of what it really takes to be a public school educator. Civic leaders and business and industry leaders from around Orangeburg County donned new roles recently, as the head administrators at the schools in Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five, during its “Principal for a Day®” program.

Seven Students Named As
S.C. Junior Scholars From OCSD5


    Orangeburg Consolidated School District 5 recently introduced seven students who met the criteria to be named South Carolina Junior Scholars.
    The eighth-graders are among approximately 3,000 students statewide to be honored as South Carolina Junior Scholars. To qualify, students had to score a 50 or above (80 is the highest score possible) on either the math, verbal or writing portion of the PSAT. The students selected as junior scholars are: North Middle School’s Jason Brinson and W.J. Clark Middle School’s Matthew Jennings, Autumn Moorer, Anukrithi Myadala, Jaidon Powell, Ronald Stokes and Dabriel Zimmerman.

The Duke University Talent Identification Program


    OCSD5 recently announced three students who were recognized as a part of the 2013 Duke University Talent Identification (TIP) Program. The students are: Jackie Booker, Joakim Kennedy, and Parth Patel, all members of the Magnet Program at W.J. Clark Middle School. They were among a select group of students statewide to meet the criteria to be Duke TIP students.

A Thumbs Up On

Accreditation Recommendation


    Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five trustees learned Wednesday the district is being recommended for accreditation through the AdvancED Accreditation Commission.
    “The district has worked diligently to make sure we were not only addressing the standards required by the process, but also to make sure that we implemented them in a way that they would impact students. We believe we’re well on our way to improving the system across the board,” OCSD5 Superintendent Cynthia Wilson said.
